Frequently Asked Questions
What do I need to bring with me to Palmar?
Don't forget to bring enough cash to cover all food, drinks and activities during your stay at Palmar. The only ATM in Bocas is located in Bocas Town at the bank. Other important items include bug spray, sunscreen and any other personal items that you don't want to be without. Also don't forget a flashlight or headlamp!
Do you have a restaurant? Are there any restaurants nearby?
We do have a restaurant! Our restaurant offers a variety of breakfast and lunch items for purchase and also serves up one family style dinner each night. Breakfast is from 8am-11am and lunch is from 11:30am-4pm. You must sign up in advance (by 5 pm) to take part in the family dinner. Vegetarian options are always available!
There are two other restaurants within a short walk. Punta Lava Beach Bar & Grill is just 5 minutes down the beach and they have food from 11-4 pm and drinks from 11-sunset. Kayukos restaurant is only 10 minutes away up a jungle path and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. They also have ping pong, pool and darts.
...But I thought you had a kitchen for community use?
We used to have a kitchen for guest use but with the addition of more tents our occupancy outgrew the available kitchen space. As the crowded kitchen was often the only negative aspect that guests could point out during their stay we made the decision to switch to a restaurant. Guests are more than welcome to still bring their own food but there will not be kitchen facilities or refrigeration available for guest use.
What do you sell in your general store?
Our general store offers a variety of snack items such as: Candy Bars-Granola Bars-Cookies-Crackers-Chips-Pringles-Peanut M&Ms
Besides snacks, we also sell locally made coconut oil, Palmar hats & Palmar drink coozies.
Please note that due to the difficulty of obtaining goods in our remote location not all items are always available.
Do you have coffee?
Coffee and tea are available for $1 and $0.75, respectively. We brew up a batch the night before for early risers and refill with fresh pots throughout the morning starting at 8 am when reception opens.
Do you have internet access?
We do not have WiFi but you can make a short 10 minute hike through the jungle to Kayuko's restaurant (part of Red Frog Resort) where you can use their WiFi internet with the purchase of food or drink.
What is the weather like in Bocas? What if it is raining during my stay?
Bocas has a very warm, tropical climate all year long. There is no set "dry" season but the drier months to visit are August-October and February-April. November is typically a very wet month. However, with that said, there is really no way to predict what the weather will be like, some "rainy months" are very sunny and some "dry months" are very wet! The weather is usually gorgeous for up to 2 weeks followed by a few days of rain and May-July feature nighttime thundershowers. At Palmar we LOVE the rain because it replenishes our water tanks and helps our jungle gardens stay lush! If it is rainy during your stay, don't worry! You and your belongings will stay dry in our safari tents and we have a very large variety of games and books to keep you busy! Rain also usually means good swell so grab a board and go surfing!
I want to go SCUBA diving while I'm in Bocas, can you help arrange this?
Yes! We highly recommend Bocas Water Sports for dive trips and dive certification. Bocas is a great place to dive and is one of the very cheapest spots in the world for certification! Bocas Water Sports is located in Bocas Town and we can help you arrange special transport so that you make it to town in time to dive.
