Long Term Volunteer Positions
Night Reception and Bar
Minimum 6 month commitment required. Preferably a couple or two friends but this could also work for one person. You work 6 days per week from 4:30-10:30 om. Your accommodation is provided and you eat family dinners for free. You earn tips and a small food stipend, can take the Palmar boat for to town for free and get a discount at bar and general store.
Responsibilities include: bar tending, customer service, checking guests in and giving them the tour of the property, booking tours and transport for guests, keeping track of guest bills and closing bills for people leaving early in the morning, making a list each night of items that need to be delivered in the morning, keeping the bar and great house area clean and orderly, make coffee last thing at night for the morning.
Kitchen Manager & Dinner Chef
Minimum 2 month commitment. Can be a couple or 1 person. Makes dinner 5 days per week and breakfast and lunch one day a week on the local chef's day off. Your accommodation is provided and you get dinners for free. Small stipend is provided. You can take boat for free to town and gets a discount at the bar and general store.
Responsibilities include: Creating healthy and cost effective menu items using local ingredients when possible. Scheduling the entire week’s menu in advance. There should be one dinner item for each day with vegetarian option. At least one shopping day per week. Must keep cooking space clean and organized. Also in charge of keeping ingredients stocked through daily AM and PM supply orders.
Specialized Volunteers—Minimum 2 weeks
Yoga Instructor
Provides daily yoga classes. There is a charge of $4/class for guests and $6/class for non-guests. Gets to keep a percentage of the class fees. Gets to stay in the dorm or camping. Gets a discount on bar, general store and family dinners. Can take boat for free.
Handy person/carpenter
Helps with small carpentry projects (driftwood furniture etc). Helps fix items that break around the property. Gets to stay in the dorm or camping. Gets a discount on bar, general store and family dinners. Can take boat for free.
Gardener/Green Thumb
In charge of the gardens and landscaping around the property as well as flower arrangements for the great house and bathrooms. Gets to stay in the dorm or camping. Gets a discount on bar, general store and family dinners. Can take boat for free.
Artists/Crafters
In charge of craft projects utilizing natural materials (shells, driftwood, sea glass, leaves, bottles and other recycled materials etc) found in the area and making small art pieces for use around the property. Gets to stay in the dorm or camping. Gets a discount on bar, general store and family dinners. Can take boat for free.
